An Exposition of Romans 10:9,10
Using Romans 10:9-14 as an invitation to come forward to the front of a church to receive Christ is nothing but an inherited tradition and a definite case of adding works to the clear Gospel. The people who have been kind enough to come to church deserve to hear the Gospel right from the pulpit. That is our foremost
message! We are to proclaim the message that Christ died to pay for the sin of the world, which includes all of us; and all we have to do is believe it. When anyone accepts Christ's gift of Salvation by believing He did that for them, He makes them two promises: "They shall never perish (Go to Hell); but, have everlasting life." (John 3:16) We are not to "play games" with the souls of men just to have statistics; or numbers on a wall!
I have sat many times in a church as the pastor would have everyone stand at the invitation and sing the familiar invitation song, “Just as I am without one plea.” I thought “Just as I am” meant sitting right where you are; not coming to the front of a church in front of all those people. Then, as we sing “Without one plea,” the pastor spends the next several minutes pleading with the unsaved to come forward. This seemed to me like we were singing a song that said one thing and the preacher was pleading the opposite. I am the type of person who likes to reason things out. In other words, when common sense makes good sense, seek no other sense! And this did not make good sense to me at all...
The untold truth is hardly ever recognized or brought to light concerning the lost who come to church and are then urged to leave their seat and stand before the whole congregation to receive Christ as their Savior. They refuse to obey the church's tradition and perversion of the Scriptures concerning Romans 10:9,10, and--GET THIS NOW! They leave the church the same way they came in—lost, on their way to Hell!
